You avoid the manual windowing of the various zones as Readiris decomposes the page automatically. This is particularly useful when columnized texts and documents with a complex page layout - possibly including graphics and tables - are OCRed.
There are three window types: text blocks, tables and graphic zones containing photos, illustrations etc.
A color code indicates the window type: text windows are yellow, graphics are blue and table windows are purple. (The windows have a colored border but no ôfillö color - the actual color tones of your scans are not masked.)
The windows are sorted top-down, left to right to account for columnized documents but you can change their sort order.
Page analysis is fast, skew-tolerant and highly accurate - it ôdetectsö irregular shapes.
The page analysis detects ôgriddedö and ônon-griddedö tables: ôgriddedö or ôframedö tables have borders around the cells, ônon-griddedö tables are not surrounded by cell borders. (When the space between the columns of ônon-griddedö tables, Readiris may avoid windowing it as a table to avoid confusion with text columns.)
Page analysis detects zones where you get white text on a black background. (Readiris ôinvertsö the image when the need arises to recognize such text blocks!)
Specific routines are used for Asian documents: the interline spacing of Asian documents is in most cases bigger than in Western documents, the text is made up of small icons (ôideogramsö) that could easily be seen as graphic zones in Western documents and the text may run from top to bottom, from right to left.
To decompose the scanned documents automatically, enable the option Page Analysis.
To make Readiris decompose the current page, use the command Analyze Page.
Tip: the page analysis tool Ignore Exterior Zone limits the page decomposition to the ôcroppedö portion of the image. You can exclude the same outer zone from page analysis on every page of the document. (Re-execute the page analysis to cancel the image ôcroppingö or modify the zones manually.)
Tip: the page analysis is re-executed when you rotate and deskew an image.
Tip: select the document language before executing the page analysis when you are dealing with Asian documents.
Tip: if you forgot to select the proper language, select it afterwards. Readiris re-executes the page analysis automatically!
