National Adaptive Technology Centre

The National Adaptive Technology Centre provides its services for blindand visually-impaired individuals, for schools, government agencies, socialand labour offices, commercial companies, and others. The Centre embracesthe complete scope of adaptive devices ranging from simple aids of everydayuse to advanced electronic equipment. To make the use of any device mosteffective, it is necessary to conduct an expert assessment of its suitabilityfor a particular visually-impaired individual and to provide adequate usert raining.
Provides services in Centre of Evaluation and Testing, which was established in year 1996 with kindly assistance of EENAT funds.

The Centre provides specific services in the following areas:

• comprehensive information on equipment acquisition, technical parameters, prices and operation;
• suggestions for improvements of existing aids as well as initiating of new products in collaboration with developers, manufacturers and distributors;
• user feasibility assessments of newly introduced technology (both domesticand imported);
• assessment and demonstrating of advanced adaptive technology;
• testing, evaluating and advisory in area of access technology - Centreof Evaluation;
• recommending of financial contribution for special access technology forSocial Welfare Offices;
• advanced technology user training courses;
• co-operation with Social Welfare Offices, Labour Offices, health insurancecompanies, special schools, employers and others who are in any way involved with the visually-impaired;
• exhibitions, presentations, seminars both for specialists (local and governmentauthorities) and the public;
• scientific and educational activities: directing of seminar papers anddiploma theses, compiling of assessment reviews and expert opinions;
• proposing changes in the legislation and regulations governing the distributionof adaptive technology etc.
