Configuring the Windows Client Agent
To configure your Client Agent setup:
-
From the Status Display window,
click on Setup with your right mouse button
and choose the option that you want to customize.

Once you have customized the Client Agent for Windows
with your preferences, it is ready for use.
The User Setup option allows you to enter a user name
and password for your Windows workstation.
A workstation running Client Agent for Windows can be accessed
by any server that performs backup, compare, or restore jobs.
By defining a user name and password,
only SCO ARCserve/Open servers that provide the matching password
and user name can browse your directory structure to perform a job.
For example, if you have set the user name and password on
your workstation, the user initiating the job
on the SCO ARCserve/Open server will be prompted to
enter a user name and password. If the user name
and password entered on the server do not match
those on the workstation, the server is not able
to browse your workstation's directory structure.
If you choose not to set this option, then any server can ``browse''
your workstation directory structure and perform a backup,
restore, or compare operation.
The User Setup screen is displayed below:

If user setup information has been set,
then an authentication process must occur between
the SCO ARCserveOpen server and the Windows workstation.
If the user name and password entered on the server do not match
those defined on the workstation, the server is denied access.
A connection is not established and the server is not able
to perform backup, restore, or compare jobs on your workstation.
The Packet Size screen allows you to customize
the internal buffer used by the Client Agent for Windows,
to send and receive packets from the SCO ARCserve/Open server. The maximum packet size is 16K (16,384 bytes). The default Custom size is 3,900 bytes. You can customize the packet size to your preference. Acceptable values are between 1,024 bytes and 16,384 bytes.
If a custom packet size is not necessary,
then you can select one of the four available options: 2K, 4K, 8K, or 16K.
To select a Packet Size,
click on the desired size and then select OK
to apply your choice.
The Packet Size screen is displayed below:

The Drive Selection screen allows you to select either a removable drive, such as a floppy drive, or a network drive to which your workstation is attached.
By selecting either of these options, the server can ``browse''
all drives on which you have data rather than just your workstation's
physical hard drive.
This feature provides for greater backup, compare, and restore capabilities when running the Client Agent for Windows.
The Drive Selection screen is displayed below:
![](/file/23607/SCO_CASTOR4RRT.iso/ARCdoc/root.2/usr/lib/scohelp/en_US.ISO8859-1/ARC_WINagent/graphics/config_4.gif)
When choosing either Removable Drive or Network Drive,
a list of all such drives appears.
Click on each drive that you wish the SCO ARCserve/Open server
to ``see'' so that it can perform a backup, compare, or restore operation on it.
The Client Agent for Windows saves all major activities to a log file. Information such as when the Client Agent was started or stopped and when a backup, restore, or compare job started and stopped is written to this log file.
The Log Name screen provides you with the ability to save your log files in a location that you specify. You can also modify the name of the log file to reflect your own naming conventions.
The Log Name screen is displayed below:
