Starting and using the Windows Client Agent

The Client Agent for Windows allows the Windows workstation to communicate with a UNIX server running SCO ARCserve/Open. In other words, the Client Agent for Windows is a connection agent. The server sends a connection request packet to the workstation. When the workstation responds, the connection is established.

For the SCO ARCserve/Open server to access your Windows machine, the Client Agent for Windows must be running. To start the Client Agent automatically, drag the Client Agent for Windows icon into the Startup Group. This tells Windows to run the Client Agent each time Windows is started.

To manually start the Client Agent for Windows:

  1. Open the Client Agent for Windows Program Group.

  2. Double-click on the Client Agent for Windows icon.

    The Client Agent for Windows main window appears. This window allows you to quickly check on the progress of your backup, restore, or compare. It does not accept keyboard input, as its purpose is for monitoring only.
