Use one Money file on two computers

Tip: For easier reading, click    (above).

If you use Money on two different computers, it's important to keep your Money files in sync so your records are accurate. For example, you may track your finances on a laptop computer when you travel and also use Money at home on your desktop computer. You'll need to make sure you are using the most recent copy of your Money file on both computers.

Using a backup is the best way to share a file between two computers.

Back up your Money file on the first computer:

1  Insert a floppy disk into your floppy disk drive.
2  On the File menu, choose Back Up.
3  Choose Back up to floppy, and the location of the floppy disk.

On the second computer, restore your backed-up file:

1  Insert the floppy disk in the second machine's floppy disk drive.
2  On the Money File menu, choose Restore Backup.
3  Choose Restore from a backup file, and then click Next.
4  Choose Open a different backup file, and then click Next.
5  In the Available Backup Files dialog box, choose Select other backup file.
6  From the floppy disk, choose the file you want to restore, and then click OK.
7  In the Restore Target dialog box, choose where you want to restore the file.

You may want to append the current date to the filename (ôMy Money 7-16-99.mnyö for instance).

Repeat the above procedures as needed to move your file from computer to computer. To save space on your hard drives, periodically delete outdated files. On the File menu, click Open. Find the file you want to delete, right-click it, and click Delete.
