Current News on Godzilla:

Now Playing: Godzilla vs Destroyer!

The pre-release artwork movie poster!

Keep watching this site for details on the movie as they become available. Film fans lined up for up to two hours and theaters were full on opening day (Dec. 9th) for Japan's most eagerly awaited movie opening in years -- a farewell to Godzilla. After 21 films, Godzilla's radioactivity becomes too great for him to contain anymore. Kenichi Hayamaka, a spokesman for Toho CO., which has made all the Godzilla movies said he expected about 300,000 people to see the six week opening run. He said the company expected a record profit of $30 million from the opening weeks. In the latest film, Godzilla first ravages Hong Kong, setting the city ablaze, and then returns to Tokyo for his final battle royal. This time Godzilla, born through a nuclear explosion, is a walking atomic bomb, and a way has to be found to kill him without destroying the Earth.

Unfortunately, the movie is not getting very good reviews from both Japanese film magazines as well as Godzilla-crazed American fans who travelled to Japan for the sole reason of watching Godzilla's last battle. In spite of the quality of the movie, however, the film is doing extremely well and many people are prediciting it will beat out the 1992 Godzilla vs Mothra film as the most successful Godzilla movie ever.

By now the plot for the movie has been reported to Godzilla fans in North America. And contrary to what has been said on the news media, this is not the final Godzilla movie even though Godzilla dies! Production on the Godzilla series will resume at the beginning of the next century.

The plot for Godzilla vs Destroyer

July 1996: Gamera 2

Gamera will do battle with a massive space monster known as Legion.

December 1996: A New Mothra Movie

No details are available currently.

Summer 1997(?): Godzilla (American version)

TriStar pictures is gearing up for a multi-million dollar American Godzilla movie which will be unrelated to the long-standing Toho series. The movie is now "back in development" after the plans for a really big movie fell through. Jan De Bont (director of 'Speed') was working as director briefly, however, he resigned when TriStar imposed a maximum budget of $100 million for making the film. Initial plans for the movie were for a 100% computer animated Godzilla to do battle with an alien creature known as the Gryphon but sources now state that TriStar is completely reworking the movie to make it less expensive.

The plot of the movie was originally that Godzilla was created eons ago by aliens playing with a dinosaur's genetic sturcture and then leaving it in cryogenic-freeze. In the present day, Godzilla is discovered in Alaska and is accidently freed. He makes his way down the west coast ravaging Seattle and San Francisco. As Godzilla is temporarily subdued and flown to New York for study purposes, a new menace attacks Earth in the form of the Gryphon, another creature created by aliens' genetic engineering. The two face off in New York City for their climactic showdown. But it is not known how much the script will change in the next version. It is thought, however, that there will only be one monster in the movie (no Gryphon or anything else) and that Godzilla will be brought to life through some combination of suitmation (guy in monster suit) and computer animation.

Trendmasters' G-Toys Continue To Sell Big!

Godzilla toys sold by the American toy company Trendmasters continue to crush the competition in spite of the fact that they largely based on the 1990s series of Godzilla movies which have not been released in the United States yet. Due to the suprising popularity of the figures, TM has now bought rights to produce a plethora of new Godzilla toys based on almost every Godzilla enemy ever to appear on screen throughout the 41 year history.

    TrendMasters Toys
The american toy company TrendMasters is producing american Godzilla toys and they should be available at toy stores in your area right now. So far, they have several different toys of 9 monsters: Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, King Ghidora, MechaGodzilla (93 version), Mecha King Ghidora, Biollante, Gigan, and Battra. They will be releasing toys in the near future of all the other monsters as well. Check your local Toys R Us, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, etc for current selection. And be warned: these toys seem to sell pretty quickly.
So far my favorite has to be the 10" battery operated Godzilla figure. Equipped with a photoelectric cell hidden in its chest, it roars loudly (and eyes light up) whenever someone moves in front of it! Makes an ideal practical joke or useful in scaring away those annoying pigeons who hang around your window!
