Rassrvmon.exe: RAS Server Monitor

Server-only: This tool is included in the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit only.

Using this tool, you can monitor the remote access server activities on your server in greater detail than the standard Windows tools allow.

RasSvrmon provides the following monitoring information:

Server information: time of first call to server, time of most recent call to server, total calls, total bytes passed through sever, peak connection count, total connect time, currently connected users, and their connection information
Per Port information: time of first call to port, time of most recent call to port, total connections to this port since server started, total bytes passed on this port, total errors on this port, current port status
Summary information: Statistics are kept for each unique user/computer combination since the start of the monitoring-total connect time, total bytes transmitted, connection count, average connect time, total error count
Individual Connection information: Per connection stats for each connection--user name/computer name, IP address, connection establishment time, duration, bytes transmitted, error count, line speed

RasSvrmon also allows alerting for the following conditions:

Dead Server	Rasmon uses the MprAdminPortEnum API to get statistics from the server. If this API fails, it means the remote access server was unreachable, or in a non-responsive state. You can set RasSrvmon to alert you if this happens X number of times without a success. By default X is 120, which is 10 minutes.
No Incoming Calls	If the remote access server has not taken a call in a while, it could indicate a non-functioning server, or a problem with the lines, or any of a number of other conditions. Or, it could be that you just don't have anyone calling in.

Note

To allow for more flexibility, the alerting is setup to run a program of your choosing. This gives you the flexibility to send mail, or a page, or a network popup, or any other action you can automate with an executable file name or a batch script.

Limitations

If the server takes more than 30,000 calls or so the data files get big. They need to be archived and RasSvrmon restarted.
Only focuses on one remote access server at a time. To monitor multiple computers, run multiple instances of RasSvrmon.
