1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Ultimate Media Player for Windows 9x and NT

Sonique is a windows audio player capable of handling MP3 files, Microsoft Windows Media files, audio CDs, and more. It fuses a highly stylized aesthetic with a fluid, windowless interface and fully animated menu systems.  Additional functionality includes a full-featured playlist editor, a variety of unique output visualization modes via plug-ins, and a robust control set featuring pitch, balance and amplification adjustment, as well as a 20-band equalizer with spline-based level adjustment. It supports many audio formats, including MP3, MP2, WAV, MOD, XM, IT, S3M, and CD audio and all MS Windows Media audio formats. Version 1.0 adds skin support, an improved MPEG Audio decoder, a contextual help system, full-screen visual mode and much more. For a complete list of new features in 1.0, see the whatsnew file.

2.0 UPDATES

3.0 RELEASE NOTES

  • Sonique 1.0 Includes online auto update.  Use the upgrade button in Sonique Quickstart to upgrade Sonique's various components.
  • Sonique Quickstart is included in Sonique 1.0.  This utility runs in conjunction with the player proper and provides auto upgrade features, and list of recently played and favorite files.   It also contains links to some online resources like radio stations and music download sites.  Quickstart appears as a Sonique icon in your system tray.
  • Sonique 1.0 Supports Skins.  Use the Skins tab in Setup Options to load alternate skins.  See skins.sonique.com to download skins and information on creating your own skins.
  • Sonique now has Full Screen Visualizations.  Use the icons in Visual Mode (formerly Enlarged Mode) next to the visualization name to toggle full screen and full window visualizations.  Use the plus and minus keys to toggle different screen resolutions.  The BIG GREY ARROW buttons are now the only way to
  • This version has a new contextual help system.  Use the question mark icon to access the help.  It will display in your default browser.
  • Sonique now supports Window Media Technology 4 (MS AUDIO 4).  If you want support for asx files make sure you either have the Sonique 1.0 WMA release or the external wma plug-in from our web site at www.sonique.com/plugs.html.
  • As of version .95, Sonique now looks for vis plug-ins in the ../sonique/vis directory.
  • You can turn CD Auto-Insert  Detection on & off in the Setup Options
  • Sonique now supports streaming (icecast, shoutcast, etc) - it will open links to streamable files or you can input a URL by clicking the file open button. Sonique will remember URLs that you access - use the drop down button in the file open dialog.
  • Multiple Files may be dragged at once. Use the playlist editor to see which files are currently loaded and the order in which they will play. You may reorder the list manually by dragging files around the list or using the UP/DOWN arrow keys to move selected files. Plus you can drag and drop directories of files onto sonique.
  • The INFO button in enlarged mode is not yet implemented.
