Rebuilding Microsoft NNTP Service

Rebuilding Microsoft NNTP Service updates the index and hash table files that Microsoft NNTP Service uses to keep track of articles. You should rebuild the service after you have manually deleted files, when you are recovering the system from a disk failure, and when you have problems gaining access to articles. In addition, some of the error messages written to the Event Viewer system log tell you to rebuild the service.

You can rebuild Microsoft NNTP Service only with Internet Service Manager. Internet Service Manager (HTML) does not support the Rebuild Server command.

You can choose one of three levels of rebuilding:

Note   You must stop the Microsoft NNTP Service news site before you can rebuild it.

To rebuild Microsoft NNTP Service:
  1. Using Internet Service Manager, stop Microsoft NNTP Service.
  2. Select the service, and then from the Action menu, choose Task and then Rebuild Server.
  3. Under Rebuild type, choose Standard, Medium, or Thorough. Then choose Start.
