Virtual Directory Property Sheet

Use the Virtual Directory property sheet to specify the location and properties of a virtual directory. (For more information on creating virtual directories, see Using Virtual Directories to Store Articles on Multiple Disk Drives.)

The Virtual Directory property sheet contains the following options:

Option Description
Newsgroup Subtree The name of the virtual directory. It should be the name of one or more levels in the newsgroup hierarchy (for example, rec.sports). Do not use wildcard (*) characters in this name.
A directory located on this computer A local directory on this computer that contains the virtual directory.
A share located on another computer A network directory on another computer that contains the virtual directory.
Local path The physical path on which the virtual directory is located (for example, E:\Nntp\Rec\Sports).
Network directory The UNC name of the share directory on another computer on which the virtual directory is located. For example, \\server_name\Rec\Sports. To specify a user name and password for connecting to the remote computer, choose Connect As.
Allow posting Allows news clients to post articles to newsgroups in this directory hierarchy.
Restrict newsgroup visibility Restricts visibility of newsgroups in this directory to users who have access permission. This option adds processing overhead and should not be used for newsgroups that allow anonymous access.
Log access Enables the writing of log records to the IIS access log that show news client access to the newsgroups located in this directory hierarchy. To enable logging, you must also select the Enable logging check box in the News Site property sheet.
Index news content Indexes newsgroups in this directory to enable searching for specific text. (For more information, see Indexing Newsgroups with Index Server.)
Secure Communications Restricts access to newsgroups in this directory hierarchy to clients using SSL. To require SSL security, choose Edit.
Require Secure Channel Restricts access to newsgroups in this directory hierarchy to clients using SSL to connect.
Require 128-bit Encryption Restricts access to newsgroups in this directory hierarchy to clients using 128-bit, high-strength SSL encryption.
