Use the Home Directory property sheet to change the location or the properties of the directory hierarchy that is used to store newsgroup articles.
The Home Directory property sheet contains the following options:
Option | Description |
A directory located on this computer | A local drive on this computer that contains the home directory. |
A share located on another computer | A network share on another computer on your network that contains the home directory. |
Local path | The path to the home directory located on this computer. (To locate the directory, choose Browse.) |
Network directory | The Uniform Naming Convention (UNC) name (for example, \\server_name\server_share) of the home directory located on another computer. (To specify the user name and password required to connect to this computer, choose Connect As.) |
Allow posting | Allows news clients to post articles to the newsgroups located in this directory hierarchy. |
Restrict newsgroup visibility | Restricts the visibility of newsgroups in this directory to users who have access permission. This option adds processing overhead and should not be used for newsgroups that allow anonymous access. If this option is not selected for restricted newsgroups, the newsgroup names appear in the client's newsgroup list, although client access to the newsgroup is denied. |
Log access | Enables the writing of log records to the IIS access log that show News client access to the newsgroups in this directory hierarchy. To enable logging, you must also select the Enable logging check box in the News Site property sheet. (For more information about logging, see Logging Microsoft NNTP Service Transactions.) |
Index news content | Indexes newsgroups in the directory to enable searching for specific text. (For more information, see Indexing Newsgroups with Microsoft Index Server.) |
Secure Communications | Restricts access to newsgroups in this directory hierarchy to clients using SSL. To require SSL security, choose Edit. |
Require Secure Channel | Restricts access to newsgroups in this directory hierarchy to clients using SSL to connect. |
Require 128-bit Encryption | Restricts access to newsgroups in this directory hierarchy to clients using 128-bit, high-strength SSL encryption. |
Note The home directory must reside on a Microsoft Windows NT Server disk partition formatted as Windows NT file system (NTFS). To change the home directory location:
Newsgroup articles can also be stored in virtual directories. For more information, see Using Virtual directories to Store Articles on Multiple Disk Drives.
