Supported File Systems (Windows Only)
Your operating system supports three types of file systems:
Two types of the File Allocation Table (FAT): FATá16 and FATá32. FATá16 is primarily used when backward compatibility is needed on operating systems such as MS-DOS or other versions of Windows. The new FATá32 file system is no longer limited to a 2-GB partition size. Avid supports the FATá32 file system.
The New Technology File System (NTFS). NTFS affords the user security, compression, and other file recovery features. Drives employing NTFS support partitions of any size. Avid supports the NTFS file system.
When you partition your drives, Avid recommends:
Selecting NTFS from the pop-up menu when you partition your disk drives for use on desktop computers
Selecting FAT 32 from the pop-up menu when you partition your disk drives for use on laptop computers
One of your internal disk drives (normally designated drive C) has a partition that contains the operating system. This drive might be labeled System or Boot. You should not reformat this partition unless you need to rebuild your system disk drive.
