Surface Terrains
This terrain type modifies the landscape surface properties - color and texture
- only. Surface textures are placed on the landscape using vector shapes such
polygons or lines. This terrain type is usually used to add man-made features
such as roads, or define fields of different crops, but can also be used to
define rivers.

Surface Colors
- Override defaults: If checked these colors are used, otherwise the
default colors defined by the terrain color and texture
editor are used..
- Handle as Water: If checked this terrain area will be rendered as
water. This option should be primarily used for rivers as areas of open water
are better handled by flooding using the landscape editor.
- Surface Colors: Surface colors used for this terrain. Distributions
between the two colors depends on local surface conditions and the Bias setting
in the terrain color and texture editor.
Surface Properties
- Override default surface properties: If checked these properties
are used, otherwise the default surfaces defined by the terrain
color and texture editor are used..
- Bumpiness: Small scale surface roughness. This value controls the
texture roughness, not the actual surface roughness.
- Shininess: The amount of light reflected by the surface.
- Specularity: Highlight reflections - how gloss or matt the surface
appears.
- Emission: Emission characteristics. Not normally used, but useful
for highlighting areas, lava flows or other special effects.
