Saving notes troubleshooting informationThere are a number of StickyNote settings which affect how StickyNote saves your settings when you exit, and loads them when you start. There are a complimentary number of filesystem, network and registry settings. All of which combine to make troubleshooting any settings-saving problem a bit less than straightforward. One must understand how StickyNote works. If you have your save destination set to "filesystem" (see "Advanced settings" for more information), StickyNote will save your settings in a file in the directory in which it is installed. So if you're using a network, and you don't have write priveledges for the StickyNote directory, your settings saving will fail. You should change the save destination to "registry" in this case. Again, if your save destination is "filesystem," and your "User name detection" feature is turned on, you may experience problems on single-user machines with dialup networking (e.g. the Internet through a modem). If you're the only one who uses your computer, you should turn this feature off. In fact, if you aren't connected to a LAN, you should turn this feature off. This will fix nearly all settings saving problems encountered by StickyNote users. And finally, if you have your save destination set to "registry," you may experience problems as Windows' registry stability sometimes leaves room for desire. If you can use the filesystem as the save destination, you should definitely have StickyNote setup in that way. |
