The purpose and major functions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal

Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal is designed to provide anti-virus protection of personal computers running Windows (see section Hardware and software system requirements).
Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 performs the following functions:

When infected or possibly infected files are found, if the anti-virus database has been not updated for a critically long time, or your computer has not been scanned for a long time, the main window of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal will contain recommendations to perform certain actions along with detailed explanations of why you should perform these actions. We have customized our program to achieve optimal performance based on the extensive expertise of Kaspersky Labs experts in the anti-virus protection business and on the feedback received by our Technical Support Service from program users. The recommended anti-virus protection settings are applied after program installation when the program is run for the first time.
