Lesser Antillean Bullfinch Loxigilla noctis Pinzón de las Antillas Menores

Smaller than the Puerto Rican Bullfinch and with a smaller reddish orange throat patch and eye patch. The female is a dull brown color with orange undertail coverts. Length: 14-15 cm.; weight: 17 g. Audio 2 (M. Oberle). It is much tamer than the Puerto Rican Bullfinch and will invade the kitchen and dining room to grab crumbs. Has been expanding its range westward from the eastern Caribbean and is now common in the U.S. Virgin Islands. A few recent reports from Puerto Rico. |
Menor que el Comeñame y con las manchas color anaranjado rojizo sobre el ojo y en la garganta menos extensas. La hembra es del todo marrón, pero con las infracoberteras caudales anaranjadas. Tamaño: 14-15 cm.; peso: 17 g. Audio 2 (M. Oberle).La especie es mucho más mansa que el Comeñame, invadiendo cocinas y comedores donde agarra migajas. Ha estado expandiendo su rango hacia el oeste desde las Antillas Menores y en la actualidad es común en las islas Vírgenes. Existen varios reportes recientes en Puerto Rico. |
