Reinita de cuerpo amarillo y espalda verde, con una fina línea negra atravesándole el ojo y alas azules con dos barras blancas. Tamaño: 12 cm. ; Peso: 9 g. Audio 3 (M. Oberle). Anida en el este de Estados Unidos en campos recién abandonados con arbustos. Compite por hábitat con la Reinita Alidorada, especie próximamente emparentada, pero prefiere vegetación secundaria un poco más avanzada (vegetación de 5-11 años de edad mientras que la Reinita Alidorada prefiere vegetación de 1-3 años de edad). Típicamente inverna en América Central. Un visitante invernal raro en las islas Vírgenes que en los últimos años se ha reportado con mayor frecuencia en Puerto Rico (por ejemplo, en el Barrio Cialitos de Ciales el 17 de febrero de 1998; el 2 de diciembre de 1996 en Maricao).
