Limícola alto de plumaje pardo jaspeado. El pico es rojizo con la punta negra y ligeramente curvado hacia arriba. Tamaño: 42-48 cm.; peso: 285-454 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Anida en el centro-norte del continente norteamericano, normalmente invernando en las costas de América del Norte y América Central. Un visitante invernal raro en los humedales de Puerto Rico (por ejemplo, en el Refugio de Vida Silvestre de Boquerón, el 29 de diciembre de 2001).
