Dark above and light below, with long, narrow wings. Length: 30-38 cm.; weight: 350-575 g. It is larger and darker than the common Audubon’s Shearwater that breeds in the Caribbean. Breeds on islands off eastern Canada and Europe. 90% of the world's Manx Shearwaters breed in the British isles. Like many seabirds, this species is long-lived. One bird banded in 1957 was still breeding in 2002 at age 50. Rare winter visitor to waters offshore Puerto Rico.
