The
album, “In The
Circle” is the first live
release from a South African rock band and features 11
tracks.
Live
renditions of Sugardrive classics such as “Disco
Lazarus”, “10ft High” and “Michelangelo’s Holding
Hands”, as well as four brand new songs and favourite
live songs never previously recorded.
The first single “Meteor”
(featured on our cover disc) has already been accepted for
airplay across the majority of the country’s premier radio
stations.
The album was
officially released on Monday the 18th of December.
Sugardrive,
are one of South Africa’s premier rock acts, and has been
performing and touring together for the past five years.
However, the band has never really performed substantially
internationally.
Finally, we are happy to announce that Sugardrive will
embark on a three-week
tour of Australia from the 19th of January to the 5th of
February 2001.
Sugardrive have also been included on The
Big Day Out Festivals. The Big Day Out is one of
Australia’s biggest alternative festivals and takes place
in four major cities and traditionally has around forty
thousand people per show.
Sugardrive have been confirmed to play Sydney,
Perth and Adelaide.
In addition to these shows to The Big Day Out Shows,
Sugardrive will perform at The
Fringe Festival at Darling Harbour as well as a handful
of club gigs in each city.
This will be the first time that a South African rock band
has been invited to perform on The Big Day Out. Sugardrive
will accumulatively perform in front of 120 000 Australian
rock loving fans.
The tour has been made possible by two corporate partners, Qantas Airways and Mentos The Freshmaker. These two exceptional
companies have come forth to support South African talent.
Qantas Airways
was a natural choice for the band, as the airline not only
flies throughout Australia but leaves regularly from
Johannesburg. With the launch of Qantas’ JHB – Sydney
direct flight commencing 15 Jan 2001, not only do Sugardrive
fly Australia’s favourite airline but reach Sydney in the
shortest possible time. The new JHB – Sydney direct flight
is just over eleven hours, making the trip similar to the
distance from Johannesburg to London.
