I used to work for McD's at Fosse Park, Leicester. I think it was the second busiest store after Milton Keynes at the time in the area.I've just been reading the testimonies of the ex-employees and it all rings so true. We were often refused drinks breaks after slaving over the grills at ridiculous pace, it was not uncommon to be called back from breaks early and not get the time back and, of course, if you worked long shifts you would never get the proper break - like the extra 15 minutes on a ten hour shift, yeah - right!
The pay was the worst thing - I think we got a 5p rise every 6 months if we were lucky. That's just an insult. Youcan say "well, why work there" but it was in the middle of the recession and there was nothing else. When I worked there it was before I went to university, but there were skilled peple there -a draughtsman for instance - who had no other work options at the time. I guess in a way it was so bad that it gave the workers a kind of united spirit which prob'ly made it possible to bear it.
Doing closes was bad - you could stay there nearly all night with no warning. I had to drive 20miles home and one night my parents came out to search the roads for me I was so late.
Also, the safety precautions were awful - they should really have got into trouble about them. And things stopped working and took ages to get fixed - hot water, sinks, washing machines, etc.
Anyhow, that's all from me - basically, McD's treat their employees like sh*t. Perhaps it's better now, but I doubt it. Best wishes if you work there!
