: : Now that McD has been found guilty of paying their crew low wages, how much do you think the minimum crew pay should be?: I don't believe this case was about low wages there was no conviction for underpaying any staff outside the statutory minimum wage.
No Marty, nobody claimed this case was about low wages. It was much more than that. But I tried to focus on the aspect relevant to this room and avoid mentioning McD being found responsible for cruelty to animals and misleading of children etc etc. Considering the fact that the judge found it true and not libelous to say McD pays low wages I was only trying to find out what people think they should get paid for the work they do at McD. I don't know how much you earn and whether you work for McD at all. But there are certainly a large section of the crew (if not all of them) who feel they are undervalued at McD and find the motto "you are paid what you are worth" degrading and utter rubbish.
You don't seem to be aware of the fact that the judge also found that McD had actually paid some of their staff below the minimum legal rate thereby breaking labour laws, at least in the UK.
:It was just a comment by one judge,
What you are calling "just a comment" happens to be the judges verdict. Are you saying the judges verdict has no weight or little value because he was the only person deciding the case? Actually the defendants and all reasonable people involved argued for a jury trial but McD insisted on a trial without jury thinking they have a better chance of winning. You can be sure that if it was not for the "one judge" McD would have come out much worse than it did!
:Get your facts striaight before making sweeping statements.
No need to get upset Marty. Thanks to McSpotlight we have the facts at our fingertips. So let's see what the judge actually said about McD and low pay:
"The Second Plaintiff does pay its workers low wages, thereby helping to depress wages for workers in the catering trade in Britain. To this extent the defamatory charge in the leaflet is partly justified. "
If this is not enough, read the judgement itself on these pages.
: This was purely a libel case and summing up commentry cannot be used as firewood!
Keep you ool Marty, nobody talked about firewood. Just tell us how much do you get paid and what you really think you are worth.
Cheers
