I have been a McDonald's employee for almost 25 years, since I was sophomore in high school. I have been on the Internet for less than a week, and thought it would be really exciting to find out what was on web concerning the organization that I've grown up in. When I found this debate room for McDonald's workers, I was pretty interested in hearing about others success stories. How discouraging to find out that this is simply a forum for disgruntled employees to complain, moan, and groan, and discourage new employees about their opportunities.Let me tell my story, even though it seems to be very different from those told here. I have had a very successful career with McDonald's, starting as a crewperson and getting up into mid-management with several Owner/Operator organizations. I didn't get where I am by living with all the horror stories that are being described here, but determining how I could go about making a difference with the people I worked with, and worked for. Along the line I have had bosses and owners who have been just as committed to being the best as I am, and I have worked
in extremely successful restaurants as a result. Early in my career, I saw that I could get a chance to get into management, I could begin to make a difference in the way a McDonald's restaurant was run, by being the person responsible for hiring the right people, and letting go of the right people. As a Supervisor, I am now in a position to hire and promote the right people to management, and fire or demote the right people out of management. I have been able to create an organization that has low turnover among its employees at all levels, and our organization
is recognized as one of the most professional and progressive in our area. My point is this--if you think it should be better where you are, make it better by getting more involved in your restaurant, rather than complaining about it in this forum, or commiserating with others who do so. I would encourage all of you to become a positive force for continuing improvement. If you cannot turn your situation around, or are not in a position to do so, then find another McDonald's organization that demonstrates more concern for the system, it's employees, and it's costumers.
Believe me, there are more caring restaurants out here than there are uncaring, and there are more positive experiences being lived than there are negative.Again, this is my first adventure onto the Internet, and I have passion for McDonald's and what it has done for me. I would like to hear from others who have enjoyed success as I have, or I would be willing to answer or respond to observations that this little note causes.
