: If I were UPS, I'd do the following:: 1) Fire every single striking worker.
: 2) Hire replacements.
: 3) Give the replacements exactly what the strikers were asking for.
Upon doing which, you'd be in the exact position you initially refused
to be in. You lose. Years of business school tuition down the drain.
: Labor needs to be taught that there is no "right" to a job.
I should say so. Not only do they give up most of the value of their
work to their masters, they also think they've got a right to stay on the plantation as long as they please. Outrageous.
: Attacking your company is similar to a dog attacking its master. When that happens, you hit the dog, hard. Then you show it some kindness, to teach it that obediance is rewarded.
A beautifully crafted analogy, except for one thing. The dog doesn't support its master. Labor does.
Many would-be masters have found, to their dismay, that they can't control their dogs. As Quincunx says, they get bitten. Even Barbara Woodhouse couldn't train a kennel of ornery Teamsters. UPS may beat its dogs into submission, like any other coward would do, but it's good to know they're paying dearly for it.
None.
