Mikawa in Aichi Prefecture, the home of Ieyasu Tokugawa, was a center of pyrotechnics and gun technology during the Edo era. The Mikawa hand tube fireworks are a symbol of the bravery of the pyrotechnicians who make and set them off. The hand tube is a piece of green bamboo 10 cm in diameter and 70 cm long. This used to be a sort of ceremony where young men proved their manhood. At this time, many people were injured, and some even lost their lives.
