As an Anthropologist, I am delighted to be associated with Fujitsu's Great Journey project.
While Mr. Sekino's journey follows the grand tradition of 19th and 20th century explores, Fujitsu's Great Journey project explores still uncharted new territory by allowing users of the internet to participate along with Mr. Sekino as he makes his journey.
Just as if we were scientists or explorers ourselves, we can accompany Mr. Sekino as he traverses the vast continents of our globe.
It is particularly appropriate that as we near the end of the century, we should celebrate the distance human beings have covered, both in time and space, and reflect upon the great diversity of human cultures and their adaptation to a multitude of different environments.
Likewise, it is apt that scientists and teachers should be excited about the potential of cyberspace and the internet to allow new ways for children and adults to learn about and experience the world they inhabit.
