Planned¢-------¢¢We have all heard stories of certain¢games being converted to the Atari¢8-bit. Some sad person had a few spare¢hours and so went through all is¢magazines to see what was actually¢planned and never made it. I've also¢included some titles that appear to¢have been released in America only.¢*¢Acrojet¢-------¢¢Published by Microprose, I have seen it¢advertised in a couple of Amercian¢magazines.¢¢Camelot¢-------¢¢Planned by Tynesoft, but I don't think¢it made it past the drawing board.¢¢Casino Roulette¢---------------¢¢Originally from CDS, maybe it was¢eventually released as 'Roulette¢Simulator' by Byte Back.¢*¢Contagion¢---------¢¢One of the many games reportedly being¢converted by Atari during their short¢'We'll support the Atari 8-bit' phase.¢¢Crumble's Crisis 2¢------------------¢¢I do have a copy of this game, but was¢it ever planned for commercial release?¢As far as I know it never made it.¢¢Elite¢-----¢¢Released on nearly every other computer¢format and planned (and reportedly¢written) for the Atari 8-bit. I don't¢know how far the Atari conversion went¢but strangley it is at no.10 in the¢software charts in an old Atari User!¢We have all seen the claims of a person¢saying he had this game, I personally¢think he was lying.¢¢Elevator Action¢---------------¢¢Another 'Amercian only' product, this¢one was published by Datasoft.¢¢Escape from Planet X¢--------------------¢¢From Red Rat, probably renamed 'Escape¢from Doomworld' when released.¢¢Flash Gordon¢------------¢¢This was definetly released by¢Mastertronic, but seems very rare. I¢have only ever seen it once.¢¢Frankie Goes to Hollywood¢-------------------------¢¢When they were first formed Ocean did¢plan to do an Atari conversion of this¢(well so the adverts claimed), it¢didn't take too long for them to change¢their tune.¢¢Go-Kart Simulator¢-----------------¢¢Supposedly planned Atari release by¢Zeppelin.¢¢Great Maine Race¢----------------¢¢Haven't got a clue what this is!¢Published in America by Haxden.¢*¢Gunship¢-------¢¢Another American release by Microprose.¢¢Hunt for Red October¢--------------------¢¢Can't remember who published this, but¢we never saw the planned conversion¢anyway.¢¢Jackal¢------¢¢Konami actually has a full page advert¢for this in the old 'Atari User',¢maybe one of those 'written but never¢seen' games.¢*¢Jet Set Willy II¢----------------¢¢Thankfully (if the first one was¢anything to go by!) never released by¢Tynesoft.¢¢Kendo Warrior¢-------------¢¢Supposedly soon to be converted by¢'Byte Back'. That was a LONG time ago.¢¢The Last Guardian¢-----------------¢¢Tynesoft always seemed to be 'adding a¢few finishing touches to this game'¢and then Tynesoft were no more and so¢was this game.¢*¢The Last Ninja¢--------------¢¢An Atari 8-bit conversion was planned¢(as all the original adverts claimed),¢but never saw the light of day.¢Harlequin said they were going to do¢the Atari 8-bit version (albeit a few¢years later) but we never saw this¢either.¢¢The Last Starfighter¢--------------------¢¢Revamped (are you sure?) and officially¢released as 'Star Raiders II'. It's¢harder to find someone who hasn't got¢this.¢¢Mind Pursuit¢------------¢¢Another game from Datasoft that was¢only released in America.¢¢Nebulus¢-------¢¢Hewson said they were going to do an¢Atari 8-bit conversion of this. They¢didn't.¢¢Postman Pat¢-----------¢¢Planned from Alternative. Apparently¢Atari 8-bit owners voted against the¢company doing an Atari 8-bit version¢when they realised that Alternative¢were going to ask S.Macilwee to do it.¢¢Revenge at Rigel¢----------------¢¢A Bulldog release, but not for the¢Atari 8-bit (although it is rumoured¢that it was actually converted).¢¢Shadow of the Beast¢-------------------¢¢Harlequin were reportedly doing the¢Atari 8-bit conversion of this (and¢many others like Paperboy, Menace,¢Project Xanthon, Kick Off Plus,¢Defenders of the Earth, Fiendish¢Freddie, Ghost & Goblins, 1942). We¢never saw anything else after 'Zero¢War'.¢¢Speed Ace II¢------------¢¢Brian Jobling said his sequel to 'Speed¢Ace' would make the other look tame.¢Sigh...¢*¢Storm Force¢------------¢¢Alternative are converting this to the¢Atari 8-bit... so it was said.¢¢Super Soccer¢------------¢¢We even got a screen shot of this game¢from 'Atari' in an issue of 'Page 6'.¢It did look remarkably like Tynesoft's¢'European Super Soccer' though.¢¢Tube Baddies¢------------¢¢Another planned Atari conversion from¢'Atari'.¢*¢Yie Ar Kung Fu¢--------------¢¢I've only ever seemed this advertised¢in ONE Amercian magazine, so I don't¢know it it actually made it. From¢Datasoft by the way.¢¢Z-Patrol¢--------¢¢Again from 'Atari', again never made¢it.¢¢Zone Patrol¢-----------¢¢Yet again another planned release from¢'Atari'.¢*¢Zoids¢-----¢¢Martech said they would do an Atari¢8-bit conversion of this. Liars!¢*¢And that it all that I know!¢If you have anything to add to this¢then why not contact me? And if you¢have actually played any of these, in¢either full or demo versions then¢please let me know and we can assess¢how much of the game was actually¢written.¢¢John E. (TEBSF)¢
