REM MAXINFO "MAX" is a remarkable Demo of the Spectrum's graphic and sound (128k) capabilities. Virtually every available byte is used. The first stage of the demo is reached by responding to the ANY -KEY prompt on the "GORILLA" screen, and then there are two ways of progressing from here. Either use the SPACE bar or just wait for all nine of the identi- cal but delightful "scenes" to complete. Incidentally, the message that flashes onto the top of the screen (including the border!) is clearly readable on a plain 48k Spectrum, but distorted on a +2, even in 48k mode. It says "KILL IT" in case you were wondering. The main Demo greets you with a gratuitous impolite verbal message, and again there is a slight difference in the displays on the different machines. The original 48k has a clear yellow screen to start with whereas the +2 appears to have a corrupted screen of muticloured squares and remnants of the previous graphics. However the attributes can be immediately cleared by pressing key "6" and any odd graphics remaining are soon mopped up as the demo progresses. Some of the key responses are given in the scrolling messages on the black screen, but not all and the scroll is quite quick so you may miss some. So here they are:- KEYS:- 1 to 5...Select music track. 6 to 0...Select background graphic pattern. (6 = plain). Q and W..display full-screen 3- channel sound-level indicator in addition to the small one at top of screen. P .......Pause everything. A .......End the pause. ENTER....Switch off sound. (turn on again with 1-5 E,R,T....Press all three keys together to RESET. CAPS.SYM.SPACE.BREAK.EDIT...... Seem to give different effects, dependent on what is on screen at the moment either of them is pressed. Usually they mirror the image either vertically or hori- zontally, and/or restart the music on tune number one. END OF MAX INFO. Chris.
