  5. ±11I  began  my swapping "carreer" about
  6. one   year  ago.   To  gain  contacts
  7. quickly,  I  did  what  I  think most
  8. newcomers  do.   I wrote to many more
  9. or less wellknown groups and persons.
  10. I  quickly  discovered  that  "elite"
  11. groups never, or almost never replyed
  12. my  letters.   I usually enclosed one
  13. or  two disks in each parcel.  I lost
  14. many  disks  in  this  period.  I was
  15. quite  angry  at  those  who  kept my
  16. disks  and  never  sent  back.   But,
  17. today, I don't feel this way anymore.

  19. After  some  months I had about 15 or
  20. 20    contacts.     I    tried   some
  21. stamp-faking  for a while, but in the
  22. long  run  it  didn't  work out.  The
  23. post-office noticed it and they began
  24. to  open my mail.  As a swapper I was
  25. never truly satisfied with the amount
  26. of  contacts  that I had, so I placed
  27. several advertisments in a wide range
  28. of  diskmagazines.   After  a while I
  29. had  say,  50  contacts.   As  I'm  a
  30. student,   and  haven't  got  an  own
  31. income,  I soon suffered from lack of
  32. money.   After  all, I didn't want to
  33. spend   all  my  pocket-money  on  my
  34. "expensive"  hobby.  So, I started to
  35. delay   my  reply's.   When  I  first
  36. started swapping I always replied the
  37. day  I recieved, or alternatively the
  38. next.  Now, I didn't answer for weeks
  39. or  months.   I felt really bad about
  40. it,  because  even  my  best  friends
  41. seldom    got   a   letter   anymore.
  42. Therefore  I  couldn't answer all the
  43. letters I recieved.  I kept the disks
  44. and  desided  that  if  someone asked
  45. about their disks at a party, I would
  46. of  course  give some new disks back.
  47. (This   never  happened...)±13  Well,  I
  48. didn't  place  those  adds to "steal"
  49. your  disks.±11   But,  unfortunately, I
  50. couldn't stand the financial pressure
  51. that  rose  quickly.  I really admire
  52. those  who have as a policy to always
  53. send  disks  back.   I'm sorry that I
  54. can't  do  that  (and  I  think  many
  55. others  with  me).   I have, however,
  56. kept   ALL   letters   I   have  ever
  57. recieved, so chances are that I might
  58. answer   some  time  in  the  future.

  60. Guys  being  angry at diskstealers is
  61. really  an  interesting  thing.  What
  62. they  need to learn is that sending a
  63. pair   of  disks  to  a  new  contact
  64. represents a certain risk, a risk you
  65. have  to  take  in order to gain more
  66. contacts.    And  swappers  who  lose
  67. their  disks  over  and  over  again,
  68. should  perhaps  reconsider their way
  69. of  presentation.  Maybe the software
  70. they  send  is  just  to  old, or the
  71. letter just isn't good enough.
