- 3,ABOUT INFINITE FRONTIERS
- 4,Revision 4.00
-
- What is the group about?
- ------------------------
-
- INFINITE FRONTIERS is a group dedicated to fan publishing, whether it
- will be in the form of disk magazines, paper fanzines or fan
- magazines on any other medium such as video or audio. The main
- publication of the group is the Star Trek disk mag, "THE FINAL
- FRONTIER". We also hope to produce a number of reference disks for
- Star Trek fans including a comprehensive "Who's Who" and a full
- guide to all the Trek stories ever published including ALL the
- episodes from all 4 shows, novels, movies, comics and everything
- else!
-
- As well as TFF, there is also going to be a paper edition of THE
- FINAL FRONTIER, entitled "THE FINAL FRONTIER - PHASE II". This new
- zine will be breaking new ground in Trek fandom and will be unique -
- instead of publishing fiction zines, or article related zines, TFF -
- Phase II will combine the two styles in the same way the disk version
- has done for so long.
-
- Each issue will also be filled with a selection of photos and art
- from a number of "in-house" and freelance artists.
-
- We will also be releasing a general sci-fi disk magazine, which we
- hope to be launching some time in late '94, every 3 - 4 months on
- two disks, covering all aspects of sci-fi and fantasy in books,
- films, televison etc. There will be some Star Trek coverage in this
- new magazine, but it will consist mainly of "re-prints" of selected
- material from THE FINAL FRONTIER (but NOT material already re-printed
- in "THE FINAL FRONTIER - PHASE II"). All NEW Trek material will
- appear in TFF first, allowing us to create the best possible
- dedicated Trek zine we can. However, the Trek content of the new mag
- will only occupy a small percentage, so I don't think that re-
- printing a few articles will make much difference!
-
- As well as these titles, there are going to be many other exciting
- and innovative projects in the pipeline including our first ever Star
- Trek convention that we are planning to run in 1996 here in
- Birmingham.
-
- We WILL NOT produce demos etc. as we don't aim to be a demo crew. The
- only demos that will come from the I.F. stable will be intros to our
- disk mags or advert demos publicising our future releases. Why should
- we try to release demos when we obviously won't be able to compete
- with crews such as Fairlight and Lemon. With saying that, could THEY
- produce a specialised disk mag like "THE FINAL FRONTIER"? I think
- not! Each group should stick to their own specialities. You WILL see
- slideshows from us, but then again, don't forget that we do have some
- very good artists in IF, so I think we can compete fairly! The same
- will also apply to music disks, the first of which is currently in
- development.
-
- However, no matter what we produce, we will guarantee that it will be
- of the highest quality possible.
-
-

-
- Also, some of our dealers who have helped promote TFF or have offered
- us support above and beyond the call of duty are now being offered
- the opportunity to become "affiliated" members of Infinite Frontiers.
- The following libraries have accepted our offer so far:
-
- BTK
- Cynostic
- 17-Bit
-
-
- Note - the team are only credited above for what they have done/are
- doing for the group so far.
-
- Our productions will also have a large amount of "freelance" work
- from people such as Bjorn Lynne, Echo/LSD and from many of our
- "freelance" writers.
-
- Regular contributors will be offered the opportunity to join our
- permanent team. Our main team will only consist of talented writers,
- artists, musicians and coders and we will also feature a number of
- non-Amiga owning members in the team.
-
- Unlike most Amiga demo crews, almost all of the members of INFINITE
- FRONTIERS will only use their real names. There's no real need for
- any of us to hide behind an alias, and as we will be producing non-
- Amiga zines as well, why should we waste time and write under three
- or four names each?
-
-
- How to join INFINITE FRONTIERS
- ------------------------------
-
- Over the next year or so, we expect I.F. to grow by quite rapid
- proportions. When the group was just 10 days old, we had already
- grown from nothing to 8 members!
-
- We are looking for other members, but please don't write to us asking
- to join. We will INVITE people to join the group ourselves. However,
- if you want to join, start sending us some material for the mag, and
- if you seem to be contributing on a regular basis and we think you're
- good enough, we'll ask you to join. It's as simple as that! We are
- especially looking for artists, musicians and programmers, so get
- writing!
-
- However, one person we are LOOKING for is someone who is willing to
- act as a liaison between TFF and all the Trek fan clubs in existance,
- arranging mutual advertising, helping to keep the Fan Club Guide up-
- to-date etc. As with all the others in the team, we can't pay you,
- but you will be re-imbursed for ALL of your expenses and you will
- receive free copies of all I.F. productions. Ideally, we are looking
- for someone with a printer (a LOT of writing may be involved) and if
- possible, someone who lives in the Birmingham area (this will mean
- that we can keep in touch more easily).
-
- If you are interested, call Simon Plumbe, any time between 7:00 pm
- and 10:00 pm on (021) 358 1213. (Note - we have had a couple of
- people expressing interest in this, but we could still do with others
- helping out!!)
-
- We are also looking for people to join the team as Production
- Assistants (in other words, glorified typists!). We get a huge amount
- of material for each issue submitted on paper and it would make our
- job much easier (and quicker) if we had a few people willing to type
- submissions for us. Again, if you are interested, get in touch.
-
-
- Where did the name come from?
- -----------------------------
-
- If any of you remember the article from Issue 2 on the history of the
- mag (you don't have a copy? Order one now!), INFINITE FRONTIERS was
- the second name of my old sci-fi fan club (after it's "re-birth") and
- I felt that the name was worth carrying on. Originally, when my club
- changed it's name, it also signified a change of image, direction
- and quality and that's what happened to THE FINAL FRONTIER. As time
- goes on, you will see that our articles will continue to get better,
- the presentation will improve and the release schedule will be
- accelerated. We are starting to settle down with the format of THE
- FINAL FRONTIER, so we feel comfortable writing for tighter deadlines.
-
- Also, as we will eventually have two titles available called "THE
- FINAL FRONTIER", I felt that INFINITE Frontiers was an appropriate
- name! Now, is there anyone out there interested in a version of TFF
- for the CD32??!!
-
-
- Well, that's all I can think of, but if there is anything specific
- you want to know about us, if you want to join our team or if you
- have any suggestions for other I.F. releases, get in touch with me
