-
- LaserGo, makers of GoScript, has several new font sets for Windows 3.1.
- Type Commander is scalable TrueType fonts for Windows 3.1. The first two
- collections "Springtime" and "Harvest" each contains 70 typefaces. Each has
- 24 of the same fonts, and each has an additional 46 different ones. These
- are counting each type as a different font. For example: Basil, Basil
- Italic, Basil Bold, and Basil Bold Italic are 4 fonts. There are actually
- 31 different named fonts in each collection. This does detract from the
- font sets. Each contains quality font sets, and have true WYSIWYG. Type
- Commander does create printer and screen fonts, so you do actually see what
- the text will look like.
-
-
- Using the GARLIC font from "Harvest," I cannot print a lower-case s.
- All the other letters, including the upper case S print fine. I tested
- almost every font and found this the only problem.
-
-
- How hard is it to install these fonts?
- Very easy. Just insert the disk in drive A: or B:, start up Windows, go
- to Control Panel, click on fonts, and select ADD Fonts from the menu. It is
- that simple. You do this for each disk in the set, and then you just use
- the fonts like any other font.
-
-
- This eliminates having to purchase a font conversion utility, and then
- converting all your ATM or other fonts to TrueType. I have used this type
- of program. They do convert the fonts, but, at times do not convert them
- with the quality they had before, which can lead to jagged letters. Type
- Commander bypasses this step by giving you ready-to-use out of the box
- TrueType fonts without the hassle. The fonts in both the above collections
- are quality fonts that are very sharp, clean and crisp.
-
-
- Type Commander also comes in the "Blue Ribbon" collection, which is 10
- fonts containing ITC AvantGarde, ITC Bookman and so on.
-
-
- All the above collections can be viewed on screen with any monitor that
- supports Windows 3.1. In addition you can print all the scalable fonts
- contained on ANY printer supported by Windows, even if the printer does not
- directly support scalable type. Type Commander handles that for you.
-
-
- You can download many fonts from BBSs, many that may have been
- converted as mentioned above. You could even get a program and convert the
- fonts you have. Overall, I think these fonts are of good quality, and would
- be the better buy. Some of you may say the fonts I download in many cases
- are free. You are right about that. But, you do have to look closely at the
- quality. I am sure that most of them will not compare to Type Commander.
- One of these collections of fonts should fit almost anyone's needs.
