  10.         What Peter Norton has done for Windows, he has now done for DOS.
  11. Norton Desktop 1.0 for DOS (NDDOS) has many of the features found in the
  12. Windows version. It has drag-and-drop, mouse support and the same key
  13. commands that are found in the Windows release.

  16.         Full installation of NDDOS requires 8MB of hard disk space. As with
  17. other products you can choose which modules are installed. There are
  18. various Norton Utilities including: Speed Disk, Norton Disk Doctor,
  19. Unerase, System Information. In addition you have a calculator, calendar,
  20. and built-in text editor. Other programs are: Norton AntiVirus and Norton
  21. Backup for DOS.

  23.         The default screen can be changed to emulate Norton's Commander.
  24. There is also a screen saver included, and you can even compress or
  25. uncompress files, or view a document, database or spreadsheet file from the
  26. more than 50 file viewers, without running the application. You can also
  27. associate a file with an application. If you set all files with the
  28. extension of WKS to run 1-2-3, whenever you execute the .WKS file it will
  29. run 1-2-3 and place that file on the screen. A configurable menu allows you
  30. to place your own programs there, and start them with a click of the mouse,
  31. or by pressing a key.

  33.         I have a Bernoulli drive, and without a disk in the drive I get an
  34. error from NDDOS. Just clicking on OK allows it to continue. NDDOS supports
  35. all the file and disk features like: copy, move, delete, rename and so on.

  37.         Overall I did like the Norton Desktop for DOS. If you are a new
  38. user, or one who does not have any utilities, I would suggest this package.
  39. On the other hand, if you are like many people, who have a myriad of
  40. programs you may wish to consider it. Many readers have backup programs,
  41. Norton Utilities, and AntiVirus software. Eliminating these from the above
  42. program would only leave you with a shell, file viewers, and the ability to
  43. compress files. At the street price of NDDOS I think that is a bit much to
  44. pay. There is NO upgrade policy for current owners of Norton AntiVirus,
  45. Norton Backup, or Norton Utilities.
