  22. This CD-ROM includes the latest JAVA developer's kit and related 
  23. programs and codes. They represent the latest in Web page design. 
  24. It contains over 200MB and 7,000 files.  This CD-ROM features
  25. over 100 applets for you to learn from the masters.
  26.  
  27. JAVA and HotJava only run from Windows' 95 and Windows NT 3.5
  28. or higher.  It also supports Solaris.  You also need a Java-aware
  29. web browser like Netscape 2.0 or higher.  Many documentation on
  30. this CD-ROM are in hypertext format requiring a web browser.  Please 
  31. read the HTM files in the JDK sub-directory for information
  32. on how to start Java.

  34. Eventually Java will be platform independent and network aware.
  35. It supports 3D and sound.  Major programming house and operating
  36. system have already shown support for JAVA.

  38. Learn from masters by examining their source codes.  You may
  39. even incorporate the codes into your own programs
  40.  
  41. Most programs on this CD-ROM are copyrighted by Sun Microsystems,
  42. Inc., and are included FREE of charge.  You can use these programs
  43. for non-commercial purpose only unless you have negotiated a license
  44. with Sun Microsystems.  Please refer to Sun Microssystems' license
  45. agreement for details.

  47. The viewers on this CD are custom-written for this CD-ROM.
  48. They are easy to use and powerful.
  49.  
  50. The CW File Wizard program viewer and launcher has been tested 
  51. under WINDOWS '95 and run fine.
  52.  
  53. Our viewer can "see thr'" these zip files and even install
  54. them to any drive specified.  The file viewer has also been
  55. updated to automatically display any text file on the default
  56. directory.
  57.  
  58. Depends on your system, you may need at least 600K RAM to run
  59. the CW program viewer under the main menu.  If you get "insufficient
  60. memory" message, simply get out of Windows and the main menu.
  61.     Then type: JAVA   <ENTER>  
  62. To run the viewer directly from Windows.  See TROUBLE-SHOOTING
  63. section for more help if you still have problems.

  65. No installation is needed if you use our Windows-based CW program
  66. viewer.  It also does not install any icon or program group in your 
  67. Windows desktop either.  Most people like this low profile feature.
  68.  
  69. The CW program viewer lets you see any text file (.DOC, .TXT, 
  70. or .ASC) and ZIP file.  It lets you unzip file to the directory 
  71. of your choice.  
  72.                                   
  73. To start browsing, simply click on any directory which may
  74. give you a long list of subdirectories.  Click on the ones that 
  75. you want to examine.  Click on any text or document file for 
  76. descriptions of the programs.  A good place to start is to click 
  77. on the .DIZ file if available.  .DIZ file lists a concise 
  78. description of the program.  Click on any .EXE or .BAT file twice 
  79. will test run the program.  Click on any .ZIP file will let you 
  80. "see" inside the content of the compressed file.  You can also 
  81. unzip the ZIP file to your hard drive by clicking on the copy to 
  82. hard disk button.

  84. Some programs may not run your its files has an "R" attribute.
  85. ALL files on CD-ROM is flagged "R" to prevent your PC from
  86. writing on the CD-ROM. This "R" attribute will stay with the 
  87. file even though you copy the file into your hard disk. 
  88. To remove this attribute, simply 
  89.      type: ATTRIB *.* -r     < ENTER >

  106. We assume Windows is in your DOS path and that you will use our
  107. Windows-based program viewer.  
  108.  
  109. Simply type GO after logging on your CD-ROM drive to launch
  110. the operating menu.
  111.  
  112. If you want to by-pass the operating menu.  Simply do the 
  113. following:
  114.  
  115. 1. If you are outside WINDOWS, simply type:  
  116. D:\JAVA    <ENTER>       for the default CW program viewer
  117. -- where "D" is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  118.  
  119. 2. If you are inside WINDOWS, click on FILE, then RUN, then type: 
  120. D:\JPT        then click "OK"
  121. -- where "D" is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  122.  
  123. 3. If you have logged in the CD-ROM drive and have NOT logged in
  124. WINDOWS, simply type:
  125.      JAVA          <ENTER>

  129. HOW TO USE CW FILE WIZARD
  130. ================================
  131. We have included a self-running tutorial demonstrating the
  132. operation of CW File Wizard.
  133.  
  134. The following steps for operating the CW File Wizard are 
  135. suggestions only.  You can develop your own ways.
  136.  
  137. We have included two versions of CW File Wizard: the regular
  138. version and the automatic version.  The regular version is 
  139. totally controlled by the user in regard to which file to 
  140. look at.  The auto version automatically display any text
  141. file in the directory without your input.
  142.  
  143. After loading CW File Wizard, Click on any sub-directory, 
  144. you may see another list of sub-directories.  Click on any 
  145. one of the directory will show you another list of sub-directories
  146. or a list of file names.  
  147.  
  148. To get an idea of the contents of the program, search for 
  149. files with the following extensions: 
  150.    FILENAME.TXT
  151.    FILENAME.DOC
  152.    FILENAME.MAN
  153.    FILE.DIZ      (the first one to "click" if available)
  154.    README.DOC
  155.    README.1ST
  156.    READ.ME
  157.    MANUAL.DOC
  158.    MANUAL.TXT

  160. You should get information on how to use or launch the program.
  161. CW File Wizard lets you print out any text file on the screen.
  162. You may also click on the "FULL SCREEN VIEW" button if you want
  163. to read the text file in page-mode.

  165. Files with .WRI (Windows Write files) and .HLP (WINHELP file format)
  166. will automatically activate Windows WRITE or WINHELP to let you 
  167. see the contents of the files.

  169. Microsoft Word 6.0 files also have .DOC extension.  Some files are
  170. in WORD format.  If you use CW File Wizard to see any .DOC file and 
  171. see nothing, that file  must be a WORD file.  You need Microsoft Word 
  172. or WORD Viewer to see these files.  A copy of Microsoft WORD runtime 
  173. is in the WORDVIEW directory, simply double-click on the WORDVIEW.EXE to
  174. run this viewer directly from CD-ROM, no installation is needed.

  176. To launch or test-run a program, look for files with the
  177. following extensions and double-click the file.
  178.    FILENAME.BAT         (batch file)
  179.    FILENAME.EXE         (executable files)
  180.    FILENAME.COM         (compiled file, executable)
  181.  
  182. Some programs, especially the ones that write temporary files,
  183. scores, or records, will not run from the CD-ROM (read-only media).
  184. Your computer may freeze, hangs, or gives out error messages
  185. like "path not found" or "I/O errors".  Simply copy programs to
  186. your hard disk and re-run program.  Refer to TROUBLE-SHOOTING
  187. section if you have more questions.

  189. To look at the contents of a ZIP file (compressed file), simply
  190. click on it and a Windows of its file list pops up.  You can
  191. view any text files with CW File Viewer. But you cannot 
  192. launch any programs since they have not yet been decompressed.  
  193. You can copy the directory to hard disk and launch program 
  194. from there.

  196. To switch to different directory, simply click on any directory
  197. that you want to see on the directory tree.  Then click on  
  198. any files that you want to see or launch.

  200. COMMAND SUMMARY FOR CW FILE WIZARD

  202.     Single-click any directory to get inside next level of directory
  203.                  or inside the subdirectory.
  204.     Single-click on any NON-executable file (.doc, .txt, .asc, etc.)
  205.                  will display the contents of the file.
  206.     Double-click any EXECUTABLE file (.EXE, .COM, .BAT) will run
  207.                  that particular program.

  211. POSTSCRIPT FILES

  213. Files with .PS extensions are postscript files requiring a postscript
  214. viewer like Ghostscript.  A copy is included in the GSVIEW and GS3.53
  215. sub-directories.  Postscript viewers for other operating systems
  216. are available in the POSTSCPT directory.

  222. Some of the programs on this CD-ROM are SHAREWARE, meaning that
  223. you are required to register or pay for a program after a trial
  224. period of 7- 45 days (varies from publisher to publisher).
  225. Upon registration, you may get printed manuals, updated versions
  226. and technical support.  Shareware is different from commercial 
  227. software ONLY in the distribution method.  Shareware authors 
  228. get paid ONLY when you register.  They do not get compensation
  229. from the price that you paid for this CD-ROM, which only covers
  230. distribution and manufacturing costs.  Please register your 
  231. program if you use it beyond the trial period.
