- 3. _C_h_a_n_g_e_s__a_n_d__A_d_d_i_t_i_o_n_s
-
- The changes to the InfoSearch product since release 4.0 are
- as follows:
-
- +o Localized (non-English language) books can now be
- searched/browsed. See Chapter 2 - "InfoSearch and
- Localized Books" for details.
-
- +o Query parsing is more restrictive, creating an "AND"
- condition between terms that are entered with just a
- space between them (and no boolean logic applied by the
- user). If no hits are found, the search will be
- performed again with an "OR" condition used.
-
- +o Added "collapse book hits" checkbox. When multiple hits
- (chapters) are found when a search is applied to the
- "Online Books" database, this will limit the search
- result to display 1 hit per book - the hit that is
- deemed most relevant for that book.
-
- +o Improved error checking and reporting.
-
-
- The changes to the InfoSearch product since release 3.1 are
- as follows:
-
- +o Some UI design changes: streamlined display, allow for
- selection and searching of content types.
-
- +o Faster loading of book content (display).
-
- +o Removed the server-side parsed HTML (".shtml") file
- (used a redirect within the index.html file instead).
-
- +o Directory layout clean-up; less stored in "document
- root".
-
- +o With release 4.0, non-English language books can be
- browsed and viewed (but not searched). As of release
- 4.1, this has been fixed.
-
- +o Creation of the online books index is now much faster.
-
- +o Improved relevance on search result.
-
- +o Filtering (display) changes for all content types.
-
-

-
-
-
- +o As of release 3.x and beyond, the InfoSearch "client"
- is a process that simply launches your desktop web-
- browser (as specified in the Toolchest -> Desktop ->
- Customize -> Utilities panel).
-
-
- For example, a web browser such as _n_e_t_s_c_a_p_e(1) is used
- to contact an available InfoSearch "server". Point your
- browser at the requested server URL; such as:
- http://<hostname>/infosearch/. Substitute the name of
- the server containing InfoSearch content for
- <hostname>.
-
- +o Major UI cleanup and redesign.
-
- +o Improved navigation; searching and browsing are now
- combined.
-
- +o Improved/faster index creation.
-
- +o Browsing by sub-categories is now supported.
-
- +o The search result sorting algorithm is now by score,
- which is much more robust than in previous versions.
-
- +o The Help and "How Do I" information is now folded into
- the Online Books domain.
-
- +o Changes for searching multiple document "collections."
-
- +o You may wish to utilize the content (books, man pages,
- release notes, and more) present on the SGI Technical
- Publications site at: http://techpubs.sgi.com/.
