- not loaded on the system disk will be removed from the index
- and those files not found in the index that reside on the
- local system will be added to the index. This will occur at
- system reboot time.

- 2.3 _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d
-
- All of the subsystems for InfoSearch can be installed using
- IRIX. You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to the
- _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation
- instructions.
-
-
- 2.4 _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s
-
- Your workstation must be running IRIX 6.5 or greater in
- order to use this release of InfoSearch.
-
- The infosearch.index subsystems require that the
- sgsearch.sw.base subsystem is installed.
-
- infosearch.sw.eoe requires that webviewer.sw.eoe and
- websupport_eoe.sw.lib are installed.
-
- In order to view the Online books, infosearch.sw.server
- requires that dynaweb.sw.eoe be installed.

-
- 2.5 _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
-
- InfoSearch is compatible with all supported forms of SGI
- documentation. Using a version 1.x InfoSearch client
- application to access InfoSearch content from an InfoSearch
- server that has been updated to version 2.x is _n_o_t
- _s_u_p_p_o_r_t_e_d.

- 2.6.1 _C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__F_i_l_e_s
-
- Changing /usr/lib/infosearch/C/infosrch.cfg to add new
- document/information domains is not currently supported.
-
-
- 2.6.2 _I_n_f_o_S_e_a_r_c_h__S_e_r_v_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n
-
- Upon completion of the InfoSearch server installation
- (infosearch.sw.server), a series of links are established
- into what InfoSearch believes to be your HTTP (web) server's
- default CGI (Common Gateway Interface) and document root
- directories.
-
- The following commands are performed as part of the exit
- operation following the install:
-
- #### llllnnnn ----ssss ////uuuussssrrrr////lllliiiibbbb////iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh////bbbbiiiinnnn////iiiinnnnffffoooossssrrrrcccchhhh....ccccggggiiii ////vvvvaaaarrrr////wwwwwwwwwwww////ccccggggiiii----bbbbiiiinnnn////iiiinnnnffffoooossssrrrrcccchhhh....ccccggggiiii

- These are necessary for InfoSearch to run properly. If your
- HTTP (web) server's default CGI location _O_R your HTTP
- server's document root differ from the defaults shown above
- (/var/www/cgi-bin/; /var/www/htdocs/), please execute the
- commands shown above (as root) from a shell with the correct
- values substituted.
-
- In order to view the Online books and Help information,
- infosearch.sw.server requires that dynaweb.sw.eoe be
- installed. Refer to the _D_y_n_a_w_e_b _r_e_l_e_a_s_e _n_o_t_e_s for the
- proper setup and installation of that product.

-
- To create an InfoSearch server, install all the books, help
- books, man pages and relnotes on the machine you wish to be
- the server. To install all the documentation, follow this
- procedure in inst(1M), for each CD:
-
- IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> iiiinnnnssssttttaaaallllllll ****....mmmmaaaannnn....****
- IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> iiiinnnnssssttttaaaallllllll ****....bbbbooooooookkkkssss....****
-
- Next, install the following subsystems:
-
- IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> iiiinnnnssssttttaaaallllllll iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh....iiiinnnnddddeeeexxxx....mmmmaaaannnn
- IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> iiiinnnnssssttttaaaallllllll iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh....iiiinnnnddddeeeexxxx....bbbbooooooookkkkssss
- IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> iiiinnnnssssttttaaaallllllll iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh....iiiinnnnddddeeeexxxx....rrrreeeellllnnnnooootttteeeessss
-
- At this point, if the machine is not to be rebooted (which
- triggers _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n to be run automatically), then run
- _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n from a shell (as root):
-
- #### ////uuuussssrrrr////lllliiiibbbb////iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh////bbbbiiiinnnn////ssssggggiiiinnnnddddeeeexxxxAAAAddddmmmmiiiinnnn ----uuuuppppddddaaaatttteeee
-
- See the next section for more details.
-
- The InfoSearch server and available content can now be
- accessed via a web browser such as _n_e_t_s_c_a_p_e(1) (preferred
- method) or via the InfoSearch client. Use the URL
- http://<hostname>/infosearch/ where <hostname> is the name
- of the server. To access the server from the InfoSearch
- client, use the same designation, or simply the server name.
-
- If the indexes become damaged, they can be rebuilt from
- scratch using the following command:
-
- #### ////uuuussssrrrr////lllliiiibbbb////iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh////bbbbiiiinnnn////ssssggggiiiinnnnddddeeeexxxxAAAAddddmmmmiiiinnnn ----ffffoooorrrrcccceeee ----uuuuppppddddaaaatttteeee

- 2.6.4 _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n__a_n_d__M_a_i_n_t_a_i_n_i_n_g__a_n__I_n_f_o_S_e_a_r_c_h__D_a_t_a_b_a_s_e
-
- _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n(1) is the utility program used to keep your
- InfoSearch database(s) in sync. In other words, what is
- installed on your system should match what is indexed and
- referenced by the InfoSearch database(s). The program
- _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n performs that function and can be run from the
- command line, as root. See the _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n(1) man page for
- details.
-
- When your machine is rebooted, _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n is run
- automatically. It checks to verify if new content has been
- installed and updates your InfoSearch database(s) in the
- background (running in the process queue under a very low
- priority).
-
-
-
-

-
-
-
- Note: If you have installed or removed additional/optional
- products that included documentation (man pages,
- release notes or online books) and your machine has
- not been rebooted, you may need to run _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n
- from the shell to put your InfoSearch database(s) in
- sync with the content recently installed or removed
- from your disk.
-
- InfoSearch attempts to make an educated guess at when
- content may have been installed. It does a quick check of
- the _i_n_s_t(1M) history file (/var/inst/hist) and compares it's
- system modification date to the system modification date of
- the InfoSearch index file(s). If the index files' date is
- less than that of the _i_n_s_t(1M) history file, a warning
- message will be printed on the main InfoSearch page when the
- interface is invoked/accessed. This warning appears below
- the search text field, and acts as a friendly reminder to
- the administrator that _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n may need to be run. An
- example of this warning message follows:
-

-
- If necessary, _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n can be run (as root) from the
- shell as follows:
-
- #### ////uuuussssrrrr////lllliiiibbbb////iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh////bbbbiiiinnnn////ssssggggiiiinnnnddddeeeexxxxAAAAddddmmmmiiiinnnn ----uuuuppppddddaaaatttteeee

-
- Local index files local<domain>.{ttl, dct, idx, inv} and the
- table-of-contents (<domain>*.html) files are generated by
- _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n(1). See the FILES section of the
- _s_g_i_n_d_e_x_A_d_m_i_n(1) man page for further details.

-
- 2.6.6 _E_r_r_o_r_s__A_c_c_e_s_s_i_n_g__t_h_e__S_e_r_v_e_r
-
- InfoSearch utilizes server-side parsed HTML (.shtml) files
- upon startup. If your HTTP (web) server is not configured
- properly to handle these types of files, you may see the
- following error in the InfoSearch client application (or
- your web browser):
-
- [[[[aaaannnn eeeerrrrrrrroooorrrr ooooccccccccuuuurrrrrrrreeeedddd wwwwhhhhiiiilllleeee pppprrrroooocccceeeessssssssiiiinnnngggg tttthhhhiiiissss ddddiiiirrrreeeeccccttttiiiivvvveeee]]]]
-
- One possible area to check is your server configuration
- files. Examine the variable MaxThreads in the file
- magnus.conf. The file may be found (for example) in
- /usr/ns-home/httpd-<our_machine>/config or
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 6 -
-
-
-
- /var/netscape/fasttrack/httpd-<our_machine>/config. This
- variable should be set to at least _4 for this operation to
- function properly. You will need to restart your HTTP (web)
- server after modifying this variable.
-
- Refer to your HTTP (web) server's documentation for details.
-
-
- 2.7 _E_x_e_c_u_t_i_o_n__A_f_t_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n
-
- After the software has been installed, you can access the
- InfoSearch content as follows:
-
- %%%% iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh <<<<hhhhoooossssttttnnnnaaaammmmeeee>>>>
-
- NNNNooootttteeee:::: As of release 3.x and beyond, the InfoSearch "client"
- is a process that simply launches your desktop web-browser
- (as specified in the Toolchest->Desktop->Customize-
- >Utilities panel).
-
- A more direct approach is to use this command:
-
- %%%% <<<<wwwweeeebbbb____bbbbrrrroooowwwwsssseeeerrrr>>>> hhhhttttttttpppp::::////////<<<<hhhhoooossssttttnnnnaaaammmmeeee>>>>////iiiinnnnffffoooosssseeeeaaaarrrrcccchhhh////
-
- Substitute your favorite HTTP (web) browser for
- "<web_browser>" in the previous example. Substitute the name
- of the server containing InfoSearch content for <hostname>
- in both examples.
-
- Up-to-date content from SGI is always available at:
