  140.                     time, the subsystems marked ``default'' are the
  141.                     ones that are installed if you use the ``go''
  142.                     menu item.  To install a different set of
  143.                     subsystems, use the ``install,'' ``remove,''
  144.                     ``keep,'' and ``step'' commands in _i_n_s_t to
  145.                     customize the list of subsystems to be
  146.                     installed, then select the ``go'' menu item.

  149.                     2.2  _P_a_t_c_h_e_s
  150.

  152.                     patchSG0002360 (for MIPSpro Fortran 77 7.2 on
  153.                     IRIX 6.2) and patchSG0002360 (for MIPSpro
  154.                     Fortran 77 7.2 on IRIX 6.3 and 6.4) on the IRIX
  155.                     Development Foundation CD contain gl subsystems
  156.                     previously released with the compiler.

  158.                     Releases of the IRIS Developer's Option
  159.                     previously packaged certain graphics library
  160.                     interfaces for Fortran 77 in ftn_dev.  As of the
  161.                     MIPSpro 7.2 release, they will no longer be
  162.                     packaged as part of the Fortran 77 product.
  163.                     Rather they will be packaged in future relases
  164.                     of the gl_dev product which is part of the IRIX
  165.                     Development Libraries CD set. For this release,
  166.                     however, gl_dev is same version as was released
  167.                     for the IRIS Developer's Option 7.1.1 and does
  168.                     not contain these libraries.  Hence the need for
  169.                     this patch.

  171.                     Patch 2016 MIPSpro 7.2 Runtime Libraries
  172.                     (Required for -craylibs operation)

  174.                     Whereas the ftn_eoe subsystems on the IRIX
  175.                     Development Foundation CD contain the original
  176.                     IRIX 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4 runtime libraries, patch
  177.                     2016 contains new revisions of these libraries.
  178.                     They include bug fixes as well as new interfaces
  179.                     for multiprocessing as well as new runtime
  180.                     libraries.  These runtime libraries are required
  181.                     for the -f2craylibs option which enables use of
  182.                     the Fortran 90 library, libfortran.so, which is
  183.                     based on the CRAY FFIO library.

  207.                     All of the subsystems for Fortran can be
  208.                     installed using _i_n_s_t from IRIX.  You do not need
  209.                     to use the miniroot.  Refer to the _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e
  210.                     _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation
  211.                     instructions.

  214.                     2.4  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  215.  
  216.                     F77 release 7.2 is a compiler aimed at software
  217.                     development for a MIPS3 or MIPS4 instruction set
  218.                     architecture (ISA) in 64-bit (-_6_4) or N32 (-_n_3_2)
  219.                     mode, but with options to compile for a MIPS2 or
  220.                     MIPS1 ISA in 32-bit mode (-_3_2).  Refer to the
  221.                     _f_7_7(1) man pages, the _M_I_P_S_p_r_o _F_o_r_t_r_a_n _7_7
  222.                     _P_r_o_g_r_a_m_m_e_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e, the _F_o_r_t_r_a_n _7_7 _L_a_n_g_u_a_g_e

  231.                     In 32-bit mode, the 7.2 release of the F77
  232.                     compiler is fully compatible with the 7.1
  233.                     releases of the compiler. It is also compatible
  234.                     with the 3.19 release of the compiler with the
  235.                     following exceptions:
  236.  
  237.                        +o There is no support for coff.
  238.  
  239.                        +o The default ISA is -_m_i_p_s_2.
  240.  
  241.                     In 64-bit mode, the 7.2 release of the F77
  242.                     compiler follows the 64-bit Applications Binary
  243.                     Interface (ABI).  Objects compiled in 64-bit
  244.                     mode cannot be linked together with objects
  245.                     compiled in 32-bit mode, and 64-bit objects will
  246.                     only run in an Irix 6.2 (or higher) operating
  247.                     system environment.

  249.                     In N32 mode, the 7.2 release of the F77 compiler
  250.                     follows a new Applications Binary Interface
  251.                     (ABI).  Objects compiled in N32 mode cannot be
  252.                     linked together with objects compiled in 32-bit
  253.                     mode or with objects compiled in 64-bit mode.
