  10.        This chapter lists information that is supplemental to the
  11.        _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e and the
  12.        installation instructions in the _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m
  13.        _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e.  The information listed here is
  14.        product-specific; use it with either of those Guides to
  15.        install this product.

  17.        2.1  _I_R_I_X__I_M__D_e_v_e_l_o_p_m_e_n_t__E_n_v_i_r_o_n_m_e_n_t__S_u_b_s_y_s_t_e_m_s

  19.        The motif_dev includes these subsystems:

  21.        _m_o_t_i_f__d_e_v._m_a_n._d_e_v             Preformatted reference manual
  22.                                      pages.  This subsystem is
  23.                                      intended to be installed on

  25.                                      _n_r_o_f_f text formatting program.
  26.                                      There is no reason to install

  30.        _m_o_t_i_f__d_e_v._m_a_n._d_e_v_m_a_n_s_r_c       Source for the reference
  31.                                      manual pages.  This subsystem
  32.                                      is intended to be installed on
  33.                                      systems that _d_o have the _n_r_o_f_f
  34.                                      text formatting program.  This
  35.                                      subsystem takes less disk
  36.                                      space, displays better looking

  163.        This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
  164.        IRIX IM Development Environment.

  166.        You can use the software installation instructions in the
  167.        _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e to install this
  168.        product.  If you are installing this software for the first
  169.        time, the default subsystems are installed if you click the
  170.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l _A_u_t_o_m_a_t_i_c_a_l_l_y button.  To install a different set of
  171.        subsystems, click the _C_u_s_t_o_m_i_z_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n button and make
  172.        your new selections.  Then click the _S_t_a_r_t button to launch
  173.        the installation.

  220.        Environment can be installed using IRIX.  You do not need to
  221.        use the miniroot. Refer to the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n
  222.        _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e or the installation instructions in
  223.        the _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete
  224.        installation instructions.

  226.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s

  228.        To use the 1.2.4-6.3 release of the IRIX IM Development
  229.        Environment, your workstation must:

  231.           +o Be running IRIX release IRIX 6.3 or later.
  232.  
  233.           +o Have _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e (which contains the run-time
  234.             shared libraries) installed.

  236.           +o Have _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e._s_w._u_i_l (which contains the _u_i_l compiler)
  237.             installed for _u_i_l-based development.

  239.        2.5  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y

  241.           +o IRIX IM in IRIX 6.3 is based on OSF/Motif 1.2.4 It also
  242.             has up to date bug fixes and some SGI extensions.

  244.           +o A static shared library, binary identical to that
  245.             provided with IRIX 4.0.5, is included with the
  246.             _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e software.  In this release, you cannot link
  247.             for that version of the shared library (except by using

  262.             Motif binary applications that were linked for that
  263.             version run unchanged.  Such an application gets
  264.             neither the bug fixes nor the new features that are
  265.             provided with the new library.

  267.           +o If your application was linked with pre-5.0 static
  268.             shared libraries, the application must be linked with
  269.             the libraries from this release to get the new features
  270.             and bug fixes.

  272.           +o Programs built with this software are intended to
  273.             execute against an X11R5 server, such as one running
  274.             IRIX 6.3.  Programs built with this software are
  275.             believed to also execute properly against an X11R4
  276.             server, such as those running IRIX 4.0.x releases, but
  277.             that capability has not been well tested, and is
  278.             therefore not guaranteed.

  280.           +o Due to changes in the ._u_i_d file format as of IRIX 5.0,
  281.             you cannot use the _u_i_l that comes with this software to
  282.             build ._u_i_d files to use on IRIX 4.0 or earlier
  283.             releases.

  285.           +o Due to changes in executable file format as of IRIX
  286.             5.0, you cannot use this software to build programs to
  287.             execute on IRIX 4.0 or earlier releases.

  289.           +o For the most part, Motif programs and Imakefiles or

  291.             is, bringing a program up to this level should be a
  292.             simple recompile.
