Transcription: The first totally British vending machine using the coin in the slot method we know today was made by Alexander Nickerman of Leytonstone in the early 1920s. His biggest problem was to make a machine which could distinguish between similar sized coins, like for instance a ha'pney and a shilling or a farthing and a sixpence. Nowadays, vending machines are a common place dispensing everything from tickets to toothbrushes and such is the pace of technological development that vending machine coffee is now almost drinkable.
