Transcription: Extracting dust from carpets was a difficult task until 1901, when Hubert Cecil Booth designed a vacuum cleaner which sucked the dust in rather than blowing it away. With the incorporation of an electric motor early this century, the vacuum cleaner soon became the standard machine for carpet cleaning. And now that the vast majority of houses in the Western world have mains electricity, the chore of cleaning carpets has been greatly eased.
