Transcription: It was the Scottish physicist Sir James Dewar who invented the vacuum flask in the 1890s. It consisted of two glass chambers separated by a partial vacuum and was used for storing liquefied gases at sub-zero temperatures. It's a shame he didn't appreciate the container's potential applications and patent it because later the German glassblower Reinhold Bilger took up Dewar's idea. By the early 1900s, the vacuum flask was widely adopted in Victorian homes for retaining heat in drinks and soups.
