TextConvert reads text files, converts accented characters and line breaks (if desired), and opens the text file in the
\i Edit
\i0 application. The original file remains unchanged. The text can be viewed, modified and saved under a new name in the
\i Edit
\i0 window (Menu <
\i File>/<Save As>
\i0 ). You may open and convert several files simultaneously.\
Instead of opening the converted files in
\i Edit
\i0 , you can choose <
\i Write to /tmp-folder
\i0 >. TextConvert then creates a folder
ConvertedTexts
in the /tmp/
\i (login name)
\i0 folder and opens it in a separate Workspace file viewer. (You can see the /tmp folder only in your large file viewer, if have checked the option <
\i UNIX-Expert
\i0 > in the UNIX section of the
\i Preferences
\i0 application.) Note that, if you convert files with identical names, the last converted files will overwrite the previous one. \
If, you want to convert
\b ppd files
\b0 you have to switch off <
\i Convert 8-Bit Characters
\i0 >. <
\i Convert Line Breaks
\i0 > must be on. This is necessary for using Macintosh ppd files on your NEXTSTEP system. (For using PC-ppd's, no conversion is necessary.)\
\b Conversion Tables
\b0 for accented characters supplied in this version are PC-8, Windows and Macintosh. These tables are available in plain text in the folder
\i TextConvert.app
\i0 . It can be opened in the workspace, using the <
\i File>/<Open as Folder
\i0 > command. The conversion table files can be recognized by the extension

You can edit the conversion table files on your own. You only have to observe the following rules:\
