- >My take on the arrangement of the bits --- first Xerox PARC and then Scully
- whining about look & feel --- was that it showed a delightful sense of dry
- irony. To have a narrator pointing out what the arrangement made obvious
- would have sweetened things into sugary cloyity.
-
- - From an Apple disciple's POV, it was hilarious how Cringely interposed
- himself with a clip of the launch of Win '95, accurately pointing out how
- the concepts touted as "new" and "revolutionary" by Bill & Co. were already
- 10 years in the marketplace (ala Macintosh), and over 20 (fifty, if you
- count the original office machine concept, which also had a desktop,
- document windows, etc.) in the conceptual makings.
-
- He did make a good point though - Microsoft has been sucessful because it
- has been ruthless, and fast to take advantage of opportunities, not because
- it necessarily makes a better product.
-
- (I sat through the whole thing and yes, ARDI was only mentioned once, as a
- caption for Mat. Oh well.)
