- I'm including the newsgroup comp.os.linux.misc to this thread because
- I know that there are some Linux users who might want to run Word 5
- for the Mac and/or Excel 4 for the Mac under Executor on Linux.
-
- Executor is our Macintosh emulator that uses a 100% native
- implementation of the OS and Toolbox routines and uses dynamic
- recompilation to run the 68k code (i.e. it's fast). I recently wrote
- a 15 page white paper using Word 5 under Executor, so I can personally
- testify that it works.

-
- I just called those folks and they do have both products in stock. It
- turns out that each of them are an "upgrade" version which means that
- they were originally to be sold only to people who have already bought
- a previous version of the product (Word or Excel). That means that
- there is no registration card in the box, but the complete software is
- there.
-
- I honestly don't know what the legal status of these products are for
- people who haven't yet bought a copy of Word or Excel, because I don't
- know if they got a dispensation to resell the product to such people.
- I considered buying several copies of each to resell to Linux users
- who would want to use Word and Excel under E/L, but since these are
- the upgrade versions I decided against this.

-
- Any Microsoft Word for the Mac 5.x version should run under Executor,
- although the installer itself won't (meaning you need to install it on
- a Mac, then transfer it from a Mac to the machine running Executor).
-
- Any Microsoft Excel for the Mac 4.x version should run under Executor,
- *and* the installer itself should work, too, assuming all the files
- are on HD floppies.

-
- They also have a web site http://www.surplussdirect.com/ but I found
- it impossible to use from Netscape 2.0 a couple minutes ago. They put
- some annoying fancy moving arrow that interferes with the Netscape
- status line, which made it all the more difficult to figure out what
- was going on.
-
- I'll try again later (perhaps our fractional T1 line will finally be
- working today) and if we can use their web site we'll make a link to
- it from ours (http://www.ardi.com/).
-
- US Swimming> just thought I'd pass it along....
-
- Thank you. This is quite a find.
