  1. I'm including the newsgroup comp.os.linux.misc to this thread because
  2. I know that there are some Linux users who might want to run Word 5
  3. for the Mac and/or Excel 4 for the Mac under Executor on Linux.

  5. Executor is our Macintosh emulator that uses a 100% native
  6. implementation of the OS and Toolbox routines and uses dynamic
  7. recompilation to run the 68k code (i.e. it's fast).  I recently wrote
  8. a 15 page white paper using Word 5 under Executor, so I can personally
  9. testify that it works.

  25. I just called those folks and they do have both products in stock.  It
  26. turns out that each of them are an "upgrade" version which means that
  27. they were originally to be sold only to people who have already bought
  28. a previous version of the product (Word or Excel).  That means that
  29. there is no registration card in the box, but the complete software is
  30. there.

  32. I honestly don't know what the legal status of these products are for
  33. people who haven't yet bought a copy of Word or Excel, because I don't
  34. know if they got a dispensation to resell the product to such people.
  35. I considered buying several copies of each to resell to Linux users
  36. who would want to use Word and Excel under E/L, but since these are
  37. the upgrade versions I decided against this.

  43. Any Microsoft Word for the Mac 5.x version should run under Executor,
  44. although the installer itself won't (meaning you need to install it on
  45. a Mac, then transfer it from a Mac to the machine running Executor).

  48. *and* the installer itself should work, too, assuming all the files
  49. are on HD floppies.

  59. They also have a web site http://www.surplussdirect.com/ but I found
  60. it impossible to use from Netscape 2.0 a couple minutes ago.  They put
  61. some annoying fancy moving arrow that interferes with the Netscape
  62. status line, which made it all the more difficult to figure out what
  63. was going on.
