- I don't know if there are any Mac emulators for SGI. What you could
- do is set up a "headless" (no monitor and keyboard) Linux machine,
- install E/Linux on it, then run it with your DISPLAY set to the SGI's
- address. You wouldn't need a real powerful machine for this (just
- slap together a old 386 system) because you wouldn't need to allow
- others access to it, run NFS or other processor-intensive stuff on it,
- you wouldn't even need to run a X server on it.
-
- At my last place of employment, I saw a cool device that might fit
- your bill, though it isn't exactly an emulator per se (sp?). It is
- made by, I believe, Cayman Systems, the makers of GatorBox. What you
- do is get is a spare Mac (any Mac, be it Mac Plus, Quadra, or even
- PowerMac) Put it on the network. Then run this software (or
- hardware, or a combination) on it. Now from your UNIX box (it can be
- *ANY* UNIX box running Xwindows) TELNET to the Mac. You can set up
- logins and passwords on it. Once you log in to the Mac, the Mac's
- desktop gets transferred to your UNIX/X server. you can control the
- Mac (and run applications, and do all sorts of funky stuff) by using
- the your X machine's keyboard and mouse.
