- There are three separate questions here: raw serial port access,
- localtalk through the serial ports and MIDI through the serial ports.
-
- Raw serial port access will be implemented first.
-
- I doubt that we'll ever support localtalk through the serial ports,
- more likely we'll support AppleTalk through ethernet cards; they're
- sufficiently common and cheap these days that using existing ethernet
- based AppleTalk stacks is much easier than dealing with serial ports
- for networking.
-
- I'm not sure what we'll do about MIDI. We have an engineer we'd like
- to hire and toss on all sorts of sounds stuff, including MIDI but
- until we see where are money is coming from we can't predict when we
- can get an engineer on board who is well versed in MIDI. I believe
- some people have told me that some MIDI interfaces require only raw
- access to serial ports, but I don't know if that's true or not.
