  12. There are three separate questions here: raw serial port access,
  13. localtalk through the serial ports and MIDI through the serial ports.

  15. Raw serial port access will be implemented first.

  17. I doubt that we'll ever support localtalk through the serial ports,
  18. more likely we'll support AppleTalk through ethernet cards; they're
  19. sufficiently common and cheap these days that using existing ethernet
  20. based AppleTalk stacks is much easier than dealing with serial ports
  21. for networking.

  23. I'm not sure what we'll do about MIDI.  We have an engineer we'd like
  24. to hire and toss on all sorts of sounds stuff, including MIDI but
  25. until we see where are money is coming from we can't predict when we
  26. can get an engineer on board who is well versed in MIDI.  I believe
  27. some people have told me that some MIDI interfaces require only raw
  28. access to serial ports, but I don't know if that's true or not.
