- Here in comp.emulators.mac.executor, Sandman <sandman@ald.net>
- spake unto us, saying:
-
- > Show me something. I've checked info-mac and the like, and yes there is
- > software, but nothing of any particular use.
-
- Depends on what you need (what do YOU consider useful?).
-
- I've already registered one Mac program I use heavily in Executor/DOS
- (GraphicConvertor 2.4) because it handles something like 50 graphics
- formats very well, and it lets me do batch conversions of PICT files
- to OS/2 BMP files (which is a really neat concept, AFAIC).
-
- >And, as I told you, out of maybe 5 large superstores around here, only
- >one has _*ANY*_ mac software, and not much at that.
-
- What does that have to do with your needs, or with overall Mac software
- availability? A lot of us have used the net and mail order as our main
- software sources for YEARS. :-)
-
- >Show me some games of the calibre of DOOM (That come out on time), like
- >Wing Commander 3 or 4, and maybe ftp & telnet servers (shareware), stuff
-
- *Sigh*. Doom and Descent have *already* been ported to Macs, and
- Marathon (a VERY wsimilar game) was ported to the PC world FROM the
- Mac platform. Also, AFAIK, slick network games like Bolo and NetTrek
- are *still* Mac-only, and not on the PC at all.
-
- So... Where have you been?
-
- NSCA Telnet v2.6 (probably not the latest version) is an excellent free
- general FTP server for the Mac (I use it on my IIci at work), and also
- provides a simple wFTP client (compared to Anarchie and Fetch, two VERY
- good FTP Mac clients) and a decent telnet client. I don't know about
- a free telnet server offhand, since I've not had a need for one.
-
- The hint: You need to learn more about the Mac, methinx, and the real
- nature of the stuff available for it, before tossing out such general
- statements about its overall worthlessness based on your (apparently)
- limited first impressions.
