- > > What's wrong with the list on http://vorlon.mit.edu/ardi/proglist.html
-
- Well, I'll start by giving something that is wrong with this list; I've
- been lame and haven't updated it in a while whilst working on the new
- engine. I _hope_ to get it done next weekend, no guarantees though...
- [I want to get it done before the next beta if possible.] But, moving on:
-
- > There are several people from this list which only have email, dont want
- > to connect to vorlon because it's conection is too slow, or just want to
- > waste on-line time doing it.
-
- As for the first point, true (although if they don't have web access
- they must at least have FTP access, or else how are they downloading the
- betas?) It'd probably be a good idea to keep the databases in sync, if
- there are two databases. Once the new web query engine is written, though,
- I don't think it'll be too difficult to add a mail interface to it. It's
- definitely a good idea and something I'll look into after the new web
- interface is up and running.
-
- As for the second point, have you had any trouble connecting to vorlon?
- It's on a 10 Mb/s ethernet that goes to a 100 Mb/s FDDI ring that goes to
- several T3's to the MCI, Sprint, and BBNplanet backbones. So, problems
- with connectivity are likely to be on the other side; I have heard problems
- from people using the transatlantic links because they are so overloaded.
-
- Since you are on a different continent, perhaps you might want to mirror
- the database on vorlon? (The new engine has some provisions for this.) You
- could just run the mail interface, or you could have the web interface too.
- (Requirements would be PERL, lots of disk space, and access to the sendmail
- aliases file.)

- > list, I think that there are less programs reported there than people

-
- There's what's on the list, and about 20 or 30 more that I have queued
- to add. [In response to usage question] Since Oct 8 1995 there have been
- accesses to the list on vorlon from 3175 distinct machines.
