- E/D 2.0beta0 also has a new command line switch:
-
- executor -dangerousvideospeedup
-
- If you have VBE 2.0 (type "executor -info" to find out), a linear
- framebuffer on your card (true for almost any recent card), and you
- run Executor under Windows 3.1, Windows '95, or OS/2 Warp, you may
- find this switch interesting. It isn't necessary under plain DOS
- unless you are using QDPMI or some other DPMI server besides CWSDPMI
- (which comes with Executor).
-
- "-dangerousvideospeedup" allows programs that bypass QuickDraw
- (e.g. games like Maelstrom, Swoop, Solarian, Apeiron, Space Madness)
- to run without needing "-refresh"! This will make them run *much*
- faster, although problems with accurate timer emulation on such
- systems may negate the speedup for some games.
-
- The drawback to this switch is that it makes it more likely for a
- misbehaving Executor to crash your machine. "-dangerousvideospeedup"
- bypasses some memory protection that would otherwise prevent an
- Executor crash/malfunction from affecting other parts of your system.
- If you use this switch, it's possible for data elsewhere in your
- system to get corrupted, so USE WITH CAUTION!
-
- I'm interested in any feedback on the behavior of this switch. It
- made a huge difference for me playing certain games on ARDI's 486 DX/2 66
- running Windows 3.1.
