  13. Most 800k images *don't* need to be copied to a real Mac first.  800k
  14. *floppies* do, but 800k *images* don't.  The problem with 800k
  15. floppies is that the floppies are phyiscally encoded in such a way
  16. that the PC drive can't read them.  However an 800k *image* is still
  17. probably in HFS format, which means that you can turn it into an HFV
  18. if you know where the HFS portion begins and ends.

  20. That's all HFV files are: disk images.  My understanding is that
  21. Apple's distributions have a few extra bytes at the beginning, so you
  22. have to strip off those bytes before you can use them.

  24. It's *possible* for an 800k disk image to be in Apple's *really old*
  25. MFS format, but that format hasn't been used in ten years.
