- A couple of days ago someone posted that they they heard someone else
- say that they had managed to successfully get Finder from System 6
- running under Executor. I remembered someone else trying this trick
- before but not having any success, but I decided to try it myself and
- see if any of the more recent additions to Executor had improved the
- situation.
-
- I downloaded 6.0.8 (apparently the last System 6.x) from Apple at:
-
- http://www.info.apple.com/cgi-bin/lister-pl?Apple.Support.Area/
- Apple.Software.Updates/US/Macintosh/System/System_6.0.8_1.4MB
-
- and restored the Disk Copy images on a real Mac (since it Disk Copy
- doesn't seem to work under Executor) and copied Finder over and set
- its creator/type to be an application. Upon running it, nothing
- happened--it just sits there without displaying a menu bar or
- anything, so I would assume that it's still not possible (at least
- with 6.0.8).
-
- If I remember correctly, Cliff mentioned that Finder most likely uses
- some of the ROM functions that they hadn't implemented yet. Is there
- any estimate as to how many additionl functions would be needed to get
- Finder to run now? Would it be worthwhile to try Finders from even
- earlier Systems or would they all produce the same result (just
- sitting there)?
