  1. A couple of days ago someone posted that they they heard someone else
  2. say that they had managed to successfully get Finder from System 6
  3. running under Executor.  I remembered someone else trying this trick
  4. before but not having any success, but I decided to try it myself and
  5. see if any of the more recent additions to Executor had improved the
  6. situation.

  8. I downloaded 6.0.8 (apparently the last System 6.x) from Apple at:

  13. and restored the Disk Copy images on a real Mac (since it Disk Copy
  14. doesn't seem to work under Executor) and copied Finder over and set
  15. its creator/type to be an application.  Upon running it, nothing
  16. happened--it just sits there without displaying a menu bar or
  17. anything, so I would assume that it's still not possible (at least
  18. with 6.0.8).

  20. If I remember correctly, Cliff mentioned that Finder most likely uses
  21. some of the ROM functions that they hadn't implemented yet.  Is there
  22. any estimate as to how many additionl functions would be needed to get
  23. Finder to run now?  Would it be worthwhile to try Finders from even
  24. earlier Systems or would they all produce the same result (just
  25. sitting there)?
